It sounds like this work explores some fascinating themes. I think the Anne books were more emotionally autobiographical, but the Emily books depicted more how her life actually was. They are definitely darker than the Anne books but a glimpse into her passion as a writer that I find fascinating. I could have written so much more, but it's difficult not to give away too much of the story - which I hope I haven't done for those who haven't read the book. It's been at least 5 years since I read the journals. I've often thought it would be fun to read them again concurrently with her fiction. That would be a fun (but enormous!) project. I wonder if it came across as pagan nature worship to some. I think ...I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Samantha. I think that reading about L.M.Montgomery's life really enhanced my appreciation of her writing. There is such a feeling of wish-fulfillment I see now that I know how challenging and restrictive her life was. I find the religious elements in her writing quite surprising for a Presbyterian minister's wife. Did you know that this book was banned from some church libraries because of it's theology, and it's morality?Lee-Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04270201592696284797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092941621582901334.post-17349065407062623502013-12-31T16:31:27.776-07:002013-12-31T16:31:27.776-07:00Wow, I can't believe we read the same book...m...Wow, I can't believe we read the same book...my interpretation of The Blue Castle was vastly more simplistic than yours. I have to confess I thought it overly fluffy and rather convenient in its plot developments. This is a wonderful description, and is making me completely rethink my own reading experience. Which is what a great review does, so thank you!Samanthahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04233753953845020779noreply@blogger.com
